Race and cultural identity is a primary theme and shapes the book. I no longer feel the conflict of trying to focus on a project and at the same time thinking I should be doing something else. Much of the time it reads like an agreeable diary with good (sometimes laborious) observations of the world he encountered at Walden Pond. Well, they all had it. I'm going to have to read it again.
